Unicycle Mania

Posted Sunday, June 27, 2004

A group of Unicycling folks from around Melbourne had a little gathering today just near the Melbourne museum. It was quite an impressive turnout, and of course lots of crazy uncicyle stunts (like basketball, stairs and jumps) ensued.

Tom from the juggling club brought along his 5-foot giraffe, and I was eager to try my luck at it. Getting on was pretty tricky, but after that it was very much like a regular unicycle but with a heighened fear of falling. But once I fell off the first time and discovered it didn't hurt at all, I was much happier (and only fell off once more) :D

Compulsory group photo (minus those who didn't have their own unicycle) is to the right. If you are a unicyclist and wanna join in the fun, we plan to meet at around 2PM outside the museum on the last Sunday of each month for at least a few months, so come along!

Google.cool++;

Yep, Google just got cooler cos I just got a Gmail account :D

Being that google owns Blogger these days, and what do I use to run the blog part of my site? And since I've had my blogger account for a while and am an "active user", they gave me a gmail account to play with - how lovely :D

Now I just gotta spread my new email without the spamobots catching on :|

Unicycle Challenge is released!

Posted Saturday, June 19, 2004

Yay, I finally finished the little flash game I've had in the works for a while now. It's damn addictive, and it was pretty cool to learn some stuff along the way coding it. The high-score submissions and retreivals was probably the hardest part, I learned a bit about XML and regular expressions (god, what a headache those things are)...

So yeah, waste no time in proceeding to the game: Unicycle Challenge (requires flash, obviously...)

Oh and yes, I know the little dude on the unicycle would have no hope of reaching the pedals, if they existed. I did make a script so that his legs would pedal the unicycle as it moved, but it slowed things down waaaay too much so I took it out. So hah, no whinging about that :P

XHTML Compliant Pickup-Lines

Posted Wednesday, June 16, 2004

Ahh yes, you gotta love geek pickup lines. Paul Scrivs over at WhiteSpace has a Gmail invite to give away, so he decided to give it to whoever comes up with the best web-design based pickup line. They're so bad that they're good... well ok, so maybe they're just bad:

Wanna style my block element? I'd like to apply some class to that <body> of yours. I want to mark you up!

Have a look at all the entries (WARNING: they really are bad...)

More crazy warning signs

Posted Tuesday, June 15, 2004

Another batch of those warning signs you can't get enough of, these ones seem to get better as you progress down the page so don't give up too soon ;)

For use by trained personnel only - on a can of air freshener Some assembly required - on a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle box May irritate eyes - on a can of pepper spray used for self-defence Do not attempt to swallow - on a mattress WARNING! This is not underwear! Do not attempt to put in pants - on the packaging for a wristwatch STOP! This is the last rung. - sign on a ladder

Those are just a few of my favourites, there are plenty more on the site...

Physics warning labels

Posted Tuesday, June 01, 2004

Ahh yes, who doesn't love warning labels? Well a couple of physicists weren't too happy with the current ones, so they created this proposal for more accurate warning labels, according to modern physics... They're great ;D

One of my favourites is:

THIS IS A 100% MATTER PRODUCT: In the Unlikely Event That This Merchandise Should Contact Antimatter in Any Form, a Catastrophic Explosion Will Result.
