TIME TO FALL IN LOVE, EVERYONE!

Tiny Cities

Ahh, dinosaur comics cracks me up sometimes...

But that's not the point of this post, as you would realise if your eyes had already glanced to the right over there at that enticing looking thumnail link. It's OK, I know how it is. You shouldn't feel ashamed of your wandering eyes, it's what makes you unique, and keeps you out of the jaws of terrifying predators. These days it's less about predators I suppose, but we should still probably keep on our toes...

I went to uni far too early this morning (at 8am in fact - it wasn't necessary, but it made things easier and I had a tasty breakfast with some friends at 9). So to pass the time I took in the camera and tripod, to do what one normally does with such equipment. Most of the photos didn't work as I'd like (I've yet again given up on the HDR idea, after the flickr craze sparked my interest again). Anyways there were two photos that stood out, so here is one of them (the other one is in a seperate post, but they all end up on the photos page anyway...)

Oh yeah, it's a cross-eyed stereo photo. I do that a lot, and if you haven't learnt how to see them by now then you're missing out on something pretty damn cool.

A Photo!

Green Tree

Because I'm too lazy to sort out css float issues, I'm putting this photo in a seperate post. This one was taken from the Redmond Barry building at uni.

Boats in the Bay

Photos of real scenes made to look like tiny models has been all the rage around the internet lately, and after seeing this tutorial I figured I might as well get in on the act.

The photos that sparked the whole thing were taken using a ridiculously expensive tilt-shift lens, but it turns out that (to some extent) you can get a farily convincing effect with a regular lens and a bit of trickery in potatoshop. The photo I used here was taken at apollo bay back in 2003, and it's surprising how convincing the effect can be...

In other worldly news, uni has been back for a week now. It's a bit shit thus far, but I'm hoping it will pick up. I'm doing:

  • Graphics & Computation (woo! although my excitement pales in comparison to Matt's...)
  • Operating Systems (not where my interests usually lie, but should be interesting enough, and it is far better than the alternative)
  • Database Systems (I might regret this one, it's probably going to be pretty boring)
  • Theory of Computation (sounds a bit boring to most folk I'm sure, but I find it quite interesting, and the lecturer is an engaging fellow)

Nothing much to add, I think I shall now either go lie in a hammock or watch some Arrested Development. If only I could combine the two...

Broken Social Scene

Posted Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Words can do little to describe the awesomeness that was last night's Broken Social Scene gig. If you have the opportunity to see one of their live shows and you do not take it, I may have to slap you in the face. Many times. And then send a crack team of ninjas after you. Seriously, see the damn show. You'll be blown away.

Top 3 Highlights:

  • KC Accidental - This was their second song. Something like 7 of them were standing in a line up front playing various instruments and rocking the fuck out (a great song to rock out to with at least 5 guitars...)
  • Anthems for a 17 year old girl - Played somewhere in the middle (it was a 2 hour set). This was the first BSS song I got into, and hearing it live was just awesome.
  • Lover's Spit - This was their final song, and it was equally awesome. We got hugs from Kevin Drew! :D
